Girls that Invest by Simran Kaur, was the book that gave me the foundation and confidence to start investing and has literally changed my life. I think this is a book that every woman should read! No joke, I mention this to most women in my life, it's that impactful.

Growing up I didn't learn alot about financial literacy, so investing definitely wasn't even mentioned. Money was also talked about in a scarcity mindset and there was always not enough. I thought that you have to go to uni, get a good job and save to make sure you have enough. I'm not sure what exactly made me like this, but I always felt like I had to save and have money and be able to do life on my own, no one was going to be there to save me. I didn't learn many skills financially. The main ideal that I took away from my upbringing financially, was the fear of not having enough money so always saving my money and being scared to spend it. This was definitely not helpful for building wealth and freedom.

This meant I had to educate myself financially as an adult, change my money story to enable myself to build wealth and financial freedom. I didn't know where to start or who to trust. I just exposed myself to information and trusted my gut/intuition on what aligned and sat well with me. I won't go into much more depth into the psychological and emotional side of money, we can save that for another post. But I wanted to convey that my level of knowledge about money was very low when I left home into the big wide world, and I just learnt stuff as I went.

I was starting to hear a bit about investing and wanted to learn more about how to make my money work for me and grow, instead of just having it in a savings account. I heard that this is what rich people do. But I found the information online very overwhelming and sometimes conflicting. I would look things up but couldn't learn enough to give me a solid foundation to feel confident to start investing. I thought maybe I need more money before I start and maybe I need to know someone that understands this stuff to teach me. The only thing is I don’t have anyone in my life to do that unfortunately!

Not too soon after this, my older sister mentioned this book to me. Someone she used to work with knew Simran and was raving about the book. She read it and thought it was mind blowing, and that I would benefit from it. So I gave it a whirl and OMG it has CHANGED MY LIFE.

In the Girls that Invest book, Simran breaks down stocks and shares and how to invest into very easy to understand chapters, with actionable steps along the way. This gives you step by step support to make your way to investing and having an investing strategy that is specific to you. I found it so easy to read and easy to digest for an investing book. I don't want to spoil the whole book for you and tell you what it's all about. But the main gist is it looks into your money mindset and what forms your money story, then discusses how to know more about where your money is coming and going. You then work out your investing goals, risk profile and asset allocation. You then choose where to invest your money and start actually investing!!!.

Her book made me feel more empowered and that women can invest too. It's not a man's world anymore. She gave me the knowledge and confidence to start investing and I am forever grateful for this. This book helped me create my risk tolerance and a strategy to start investing that felt aligned with my goals and level of risk. I felt informed on the level of risk and understood the process more. It reduced my anxiety about investing by increasing my understanding. I felt like I was taking steps in the right direction to build my wealth, one step at a time.

I read the book for the first time over the summer of 2022/2023 and started investing shortly after that. I refer back to it often and have also reread it many times. It's kinda like my investing bible haha. I am gradually adding to my knowledge bit by bit, but this book is my solid foundation to understanding the investing world. When I get overwhelmed, I read this and strip it back to basics. Because it's really not as confusing as they make it out to be!

Soon after reading the book, I opened an account in Sharies and started to invest. Since then I have also continued to grow my understanding further with other podcasts, including the Girls that Invest (GTI) podcast that Simran does. She is so down to earth and relatable I seem to take on and learn the information so well from her podcasts. She delivers information so simply that it's easy to digest and learn. Also podcasts are great as you can listen to them while on the go. I listen to them on my tube commutes to work. Every podcast she does adds a little gem of knowledge and furthers my understanding of the business and investing world, helping me to reach financial freedom.

The community Simran has made to support women to financial freedom is so beautiful and I'm grateful to be a part of it. Even though Simran probably won't read this, but I want to thank you Simran for all that you do in educating and supporting women to create wealth and financial freedom. The work you do makes such a difference in this world <3

I didn't used to talk about finances and investing in my circle, but I do now. The more we talk about it as women, the more we can learn, grow and create wealth and financial freedom, together. The more we band together and support each other, the more of us that will live a life of freedom! We can break generations of financially inequality one conversation at a time.

So weather you are a fuck yes to reading this book or even a maybe. I encourage you to give it a whirl because like Simran says “nobody saves their way to wealth”.

Hope this has helped you and please let me know what you think of the book!

Thank you for being here,

Until next time
